Zambia : President Edgar Lungu urges Zambians to remember the sacrifices of the founding fathers

President Edgar Lungu has urged Zambians to remember the sacrifices of the founding fathers of Zambia and South Africa in fighting colonial and apartheid regimes.

Speaking during the official launch of Oliver Tambo’s house as a national monument in Lusaka’s Avondale along great east road, president Lungu said the occasion signals a long journey of tracing the legacies that speak to the history of the birth of the southern African development community (SADC) and pan Africanism.

President Lungu says time has come for both Zambians and South Africans to celebrate their own heritage.

The head of state said coincidentally, the occasion is falling within the same month, October, when Zambia will also be commemorating not only its independence, but also, the life of one of the gallant leaders of Zambia, the founding father of the ruling party, the patriotic front, and the 5th republican president of Zambia, Michael Chilufya Sata who died on 28th October, 2014.

President Lungu the month of October is also a heritage month in South Africa, adding that it is a memorable month for both Zambia and South Africa.

And President Edgar Lungu will tomorrow, the 14th October, 2017 begin his two-day working visit on the Copperbelt province.

This is according to a statement issued to Pan African Radio news by Copperbelt youth chairperson who is also Luanshya mayor Nathan Chanda, president Lungu will touch down at Ndola airport at around 08:00 hours.

President Lungu will then proceed to Lufwanyama district tomorrow and on the same day he will be in Kitwe.

And on Sunday, the 15th October, the president will be in Mpongwe District.

Meanwhile, Luanshya mayor Nathan Chanda says all are invited to receive the president in Ndola and in all the districts that the head of state will visit.
