Tourism Expo starts today – The Nation Online

The first ever Malawi Tourism Expo, dubbed “Takulandirani” has started with excitement as players in the tourism industry have shown hope for a broadened market base for their products.

The three day Expo, which started today at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), aims at promoting Malawi as a tourist destination for both local and international tourists.

Commenting on what they expect from the Expo, Programme Officer for Mulanje Conservation Trust, Kondwani Chamwala said they will utilise the platform to attract more tourists to their site.

“Once they get to appreciate what the mountain has to offer, we will be able to bring income to the people surrounding the mountain because the community has to benefit from the resource,” he said.

Steve Roberts from Blue Zebra Island Lodge located in Salima said the Expo will help them make new connections.

The Expo has attracted over 70 exhibitors from Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe who are showcasing various tourism and tourism related products as well as 30 regional and international buyers and the media.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Henry Mussa is set to officially open the Expo later in the day.
